Gudang Wireless Indonesia analysis on Wimax Indonesia Outlook in 2010 H2. The wimax regulator, ministry of communication and information technology has awarded some license holders for wimax in Indonesia. The license holders are binded to the regulation and agreement. All of them must pay for the license fee. The license fee is varied among the holders, depended on the numbers they submitted in the auction. After several months from the winning announcement, still no-heard of any deployment for wimax network. However, some testings are up and running. So what is happening now?

At the moment, we are getting closer to second semester of 2010. By roughly calculating the time frame for establishing a good wimax network, it seems the soonest wimax for public will be ready at the year end if no obstacles involved. The must-adopted technology of broadband wireless wimax standard is IEEE802.11d, which is fixed wimax. Currently most of wimax product are in standard IEEE802.11e for mobility in 2.3Ghz. On the other hand, the wimax operators in Indonesia have to consider the trade-off among regulation aspects, technology aspects and business aspects which is quite delicate and time-consumed.

The Wimax-Indonesia’s winners for wimax license consist of 5 companies and 2 consortiums. All of the Wimax-Indonesia’s winners must cover 15 Wimax-Indonesia’s zones. The last update news was there will be a rearrangement  for the license holder. Breaking the agreement of  paying the license fee could make the regulator, ministry of communication and information technology, act accordingly. So far, faulty signal has been sent to some bidding winers. Although wimax in indonesia is not yet accesible but it is still promising to all of the wimax operators to grab the good opportunity in the 3^rd largest-population country in asia. Let’s see what will come up next.
